Is it possible to mount an external HD via a command line?

Hello everybody
Yesterday I removed some packages via the package manager at one of my
laptops. Probably I also removed one ore a few essential ones - because of
that mistake, I do not manage any 'smore to manage to access the system -
Kubuntu 12.04 LTS- via the KDE Gui. I do not manage to repair or rescue it
via the Kubuntu 12.04 installation DVD. No big problem: I am happy to a
carry out a fresh install - I have nearly all the data at other hard disks
and at another laptop. But before doing so, I need to copy a few very
essential "profile" files from Mozilla Firefox - with my bookmarks,
passwords, hystory, etc. Because of another mistake I made today, they are
not available any more at the "sync" server from Mozilla. So I absolutely
need to recover those profile files. I do manage to exactly locate them -
because I can still access the system via a so-called "console login".
After doing so, I start "Midnight Commander" in root mode, after which I
find the files in question in the directory /home/.mozilla/firefox. I try
to copy them to /media/Bas Roufs, an external HD in ext.4 - however, it
does not work - apparently the HD needs still to be mounted. Can you
recommend me any command line option via which I can manually mount the
external HD without the GUI?
Thanks for replying. Now I go to a concert - tomorrow morning will be my
first possibility to check my mail for possible answers.
Respectfully yours,
Bas Roufs..
