Sorry, you are right, I was thinking you were closing the lid.
It is likely this bug [1] which now I try it out I also see.  It is
marked as fixed but I think is not through the system yet, at least on
12.10.

You can do
apt-cache policy gnome-session
to see which version you have, it should be fixed in 3.6.2-0ubuntu2
