Bill,
I have the same issue ( well, not slow startup time, but modemmanager 
running at bootup. I followed the instructions to disable modemmanager 
in init..

this worked:

|echo "manual" >> /etc/init/modemmanager.override|


doing an ls -l /etc/init/mod* shows the config & override files now.

WS=> Thanks, I'll try that soon.  How do I disable the  Bluetooth and 
saned services if they are not needed.  Of course, should I leave these 
services enabled?
