Well, "the Ubuntu way" is normally preferred because it's supported
and integrated and means you get easy updates and suchlike; why one
would prefer to install something 'the Ubuntu way' to any given other
way is normally relatively obvious, even if sometimes there's an
advantage to this other way (downloading debs from LO.org, say), like
a newer version.
