I don't know if this is of any help, but I have had the HP CM1312MFP
(a colour laser jet multifunction printer) for a couple of years and I
think I use it even less than you would. I have had no problems of
that kind so far. When I needed it, it worked perfectly.

Just make sure there are Linux drivers for your printer. Maybe you
already did. There is a list on their web page somewhere, what
functions are supported for what printer. In my case everything is
supported but I think there are some printers where some functions,
for instance the scanner, is not fully supported. At least a couple of
years ago, when I did my research before buying mine…
