If you crank open synaptic and type mouse in the search bar, there are
several apps to tailor the way your mouse responds. I have no clue which
would be good for you, but you could install one at a time and
complete-remove it if it doesn't do your job for you.
Sorry, wish I had a better answer for you. I dimly recall, in the past,
editing xorg.conf trying to get all the buttons working on an older
Logitech mouse that was so cheaply made that it took a hammer to fix it
for good. I merely suggest the use of a hammer when all else fails.
