wonky keyboard issue solved

This isn't a help request, just a report in case anyone lese sees this.

I use ubuntu on a little netbook I pack around with me. Recently I set
it up in a place I was visiting for a couple of weeks and used an
external USB keyboard. The keyboard powered up with num lock turned
on. After three weeks I turned the system off and unplugged the
external keyboard and went away. When I next used the netbook keyboard
it looked like I was having a stroke, the vowels and consonants were
all mixed up with numbers and punctuation.

It took me about a week of fu---, er, experimentation, to figure out
that I had to plug the external keyboard back in and then turn off num
lock then power down. Then on reboot the ubuntu keymap was where it
ought to be.

Quite unsettling while it lasted.

Dave
