Many thanks for the hint. I completely overlooked that fact that the
little MM stands for mute, once I activated that by pressing the m-key
the sound started to work. Now I still have one problem:
When I suspend the computer then the sound stops, which still is kind of
annoying, because it means that either the computer needs to be swiched
on, or i need to unplug the USB cable just to listen to the radio. Does
pulseaudio or alsa set the sound to back to mute before suspending, or
is this an issue of the USB sound card?
