no luck with flash with either firefox or chrome

thank you,Colin,  you were right, it wasn't installed.  But installing it didn't help.

Now, I'd already tried to install it from the tgz tarball I'd gotten from the adobe site.  I have this:

  

~/.mozilla/firefox/plugins/libflashplayer.so

and out of desperation, had also put it in /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins/.  As the next test, I will now
try to remove those (brand-new) libraries - now that I was able to load the official version via
apt-get.  But I'm skeptical.


I'm most surprised about chrome.  Both google and adobe says that flash is built into it.
But that this shouldn't work on a stock system ...!
