Yes it is. I too am mystified why GRUB is complaining about that!

That would be my next question, as well. Andy, do you know where you
installed the GRUB bootloader? Or more to the point, did you just
leave it at the default, which should be /dev/sda -- N.B. **not**
/dev/sda1 which is the 1st partition, but just /dev/sda which means
the Master Boot Record (also called the "boot block" or "boot sector")
of the whole drive.
