I don't know how alone you are. I rarely use any GUI app for which
there is a viable command line alternative. I come from a long
command line history (pun intended) and I've found so few things I
can't do as well from the command line as in a GUI app I hesitate to
mention it. The most prominent exceptions that spring to mind are
word processing, web browsing (which you *can* do from the command
line, as we did before there were browsers, but that's a lot of work)
and graphics manipulation (duh).
I only use the file manager when I need to copy a file across the
network from a Windows box, and that's only because I'm too lazy to
figure out the protocol for direct command access. (For Linux/Unix
network copies, I use rsync - command line.)
I never use gedit - vi (or emacs for aficionados thereof) can do
everything I need for text editing.
No offense intended to the newer folks in the industry, but I was an
expert at the command line before there were GUIs.

Yes, yes, yes, thank you.

And two more from one who just did. :-)
