HWE packages

Hi,

I have a Vagrant machine running 12.04 Precise which I am using to understand HWEs with. I've installed the 14.04 HWE to this box, but I have a question about the output of dpkg -l, which I've pasted to http://pastebin.mozilla.org/6159195.

Why are both "linux-generic-lts-trusty" and "linux-image-generic-lts-trusty" required if, according to the description, both contain the necessary kernel images?

A colleague mentioned to me that "linux-generic-lts-trusty" might be a metapackage. If this is the case, it isn't obvious when using "dpkg -l", "apt-cache policy $package_name" or "apt-cache show $package_name".
