Linux is not good for Desktop

Ramachandran,
I emphatically do not agree. The. current (13.10) Ubuntu desktop is very
attractive and usable. The availability of the Libre Office suite provides
practical compatibility with MS Office users and a wealth of applications
is available for Ubuntu. I have set up Ubuntu for friends and small
businesses who didn't want (or couldn't afford) to upgrade to PC hardware
powerful enough to run Windows 7 or 8. There have been no complaints.
It is easier to learn the Unity desktop than it is to switch to the Windows
8 "Modern" UI (though I do like it). The only real issue arises when one
must use a Windows application that has no workable counterpart on Linux.
The commercial viability of Linux on the desktop is more dependent on
inertia and lignorance than it is upon functionality. I develop software
for Windows, MacOs, iOS, Android, and Linux.
Regards,
Dick Dowdell
