Spamassassin install errors

I again removed the SA I'd installed via CPAN and again attempted to
install the Ubuntu version from the repository

So, I commented out the clamav.cf files in /etc/mail/spamassassin and
in /etc/spamassassin, removed and reinstalled (attempted)

I'm getting burned out on this and my old head is aching. Would someone
tell me what I'm doing wrong, please.


Also shouldn't I just be able to start SA by typing:

service spamassassin start from a root terminal (opened as sudo -s)
