wifi widget

I have U14.04 installed on my laptop. I've added cinnamon and mate.  
Usually I use mate. At login time there's a wifi notification widget  
in the top panel, a little fan-shaped icon. This give a list of  
available networks. When I log in to mate this goes away. Does anyone  
know how to get this into the mate top panel (after login I mean)?
