Amazing how a 10-year long Linux user can get disappointed to the
core .....
After several install-tries, I re-partitoned sda drive.
The error msg:
error: no such device : 89b1bd66-6374-471c-9864-10af498625d2.
............... did not budge. (I have no clue what it means).
That is 7 tries of installing 12.04.02 LTS
(ALWAYS GIVING THAT ERROR-MSG on first start of the new system).
I analyzed the contents of my 'data-drive' sdb and picked 2 unused
partitions (for root and /home). sdb had an old swap-partition as well.
On install it asked: install grub on drive: (choice of sda and sdb).
I gave it sdb.
in conclusion: Everything on sdb instead of sda.
............ smooth as expected from Ubuntu ......
(no idea what that devil is that is lurking in my system)
I could not add, remove or disconnect a hard-disk, warranty-sticker
still on my 2-hand system)
Glad to be back !!!
I learned: Better use a separate partition for /(root) and /home.
(Afaik /home can grow a lot for single user. Even more so for multiple
users. I ran out of disk space for HOME. Reducing the stored messages in
Evolution gave some relief).
My system was clogged to the point of NO START-UP of my 12.04LTS system.
If all else fails, Linux PUPPY (default, Puppy runs from RAM/memory) can
keep one sane. (see up)
