I went back to the radiology folks that burned them, they loaded and worked 
normally on their machine, and she assured me that they were indeed in 
DICOM format.  And gave me a phone number the other folks can call her on 
and she will setup a file transfer direct to their machines.

Unforch, the dicomscope I have installed, comes as object only, looks like 
windoze with a half dozen .dll's.  Anything else I have tried to build 
apparently needs older QT stuff than this 4 year old ubuntu has. Which 
seems odd, since the actual executable is a 2 line java -jar.

I guess I am screwed.
