Good evening
Maybe this is not the right place to ask, but I would appreciate, if you
could bear with me for a second.
I installed VirtualBox via the Software-Center. Xubuntu 14.04; 2 note
PCs; plenty of RAM, HDD space
Added the "name" of a virtual machine.
When I try to start/run VB, I get the error:
"Failed to open a session for the virtual machine "WinXP".
"Kernel driver not installed (rc=-1908)"
Following the instructions in the User Manual an trying to install said
WinXP does not work, because the error occurs first of all.
I tried to work on this for hours on end, googled me silly but cannot
find anything that really helps.
ALL entries relating to this (or similar) problems are at least 5-6
years old.
(meaning the problem should have been fixed by now?)
Tried to follow all sorts of suggestions, like manually downloading some
libraries, dependencies etc.,
manually installing VB and/or parts thereof,
running: "/etc/init.d/vboxdrv setup"
etc.
but so far nothing has worked.
Is there maybe a trick somewhere that DOES NOT require me completing a
course in computer science?
Preferrably one written/explained in plain English without all the
specialized computer terminology that I do not understand.
Sorry for the inconvenience.
(I have been told many times in the past: "If you don't know anything
about computers, should not dare go near Linux.")
Thomas
