(Sorry for top posting, only noticed now)

BTW, (nothing is perfect) after the clean install, plus Aptik restore,
plus NVidia driver, I could not recover from a Dash and Unity crash.
Hope it is 14.10's fault, still too many bugs. Let's give it a couple
of months...

(Coming a bit late to this topic, but on my disks I always set aside
two partitions for /root an two for /home so that I can install a new
release while keeping the current one untouched. It works nicely if
you have 30 to 50 GB to spare. Of course all the stuff that demands
lots of space are not kept in /home.)
