All I did was download from here:-
https://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Linux_Downloads

then use sudo gdebi to install it.

Using Mint 17 64 on both my laptop and desktop but only running
virtualbox on the desktop. Works with no problems for me.

Need to add users to the virtualbox group to enable them to use it.

A friend is using it on Maya 64. Works fine on that too.
