Worse problem with upgrading 12.04 to 14.04

Clean install was my thought, too.. I've yet to be in a position to do
an upgrade but clean install is my conscious CHOICE should that ever
come up.. I just see too many problems on upgrades across the board..
I "get" (understand) that clean install is not always rational or
feasible, though, depending on individual setups..

What about reinstalling or upgrading GRUB by itself to see what happens?

Just thinking out loud.. :)
