You'll need to first choose one of the methods of making files in a volume
"visible" to the VM. In my experience, making a "shared" volume (visible to
both the Ubuntu host and the guest operating system) is tricky, so the
"quick" method I have used in the past is to set up a ssh client in the
host or the guest and used sftp (or nautilus or some other utility that
"speaks" the right protocol) to copy the files to or from the guest
operating system.

HOWEVER that worked because pretty much all linux OSs make installing ssh
simple. That might not be so easy in Windows. I don't use Windows so I
don't know -- can you create a SAMBA share on Ubuntu that Windows can
connect to?
