keyboard turned erratic

Hi to Everyone,
I am using Ubuntu 14.04 on a Clevo laptop. Before this, I used 13.04
(since about 18 months) and I never encountered any such problem, no
such problem either on 14.04 until 2 days ago (I am using it since last
february).
Since I am mostly using French, my keyboard is in 'AZERTY' instead of
QUERTY. Ever since 2-3 days ago, it often switches unexpecteldly to
QUERTY and, if I try to modify settings to get back to AZERTY, it is
only OK until next reboot. At next reboot, if I try the same change as
previously, it won't work, I have to modify something else, which may
work or not. For instance, I had two languages setup in 'parameters'
'hardware' 'keyboard': French and English, French first. I suppressed
English, and it did the trick: QUERTY => AZERTY, which works till next
boot. At next boot, I got QUERTY, even though 'parameters' 'hardware'
'keyboard' listed only French, and that the small keyboard icon showed
an AZERTY keyboard. This time, I reinstalled English as a second
language, and, surprisingly enough, it restored the AZERTY keyboard.
Now, none of these tricks appear to operate any more, and, last time, I
successfully tested changing 'keyboard system: IBUS ==> NONE', chances
are that this will only work once, as previous tests.
Could someone have an idea about what has turned wrong in my system ?
I realise that I would have better chances on a french discussion group,
but I have not been able to find one... I used to know one, which no
longer appear, at least I can no longer find it
Thanks in advance for your help
Bernard
