I’ve been testing out X2Go for a couple of weeks now and have been pretty impressed. There's client software for Win/OS X/*nix, all traffic goes over SSH, you can use pretty much any WM installed on the server machine (some issues with Unity - KDE has been flawless so far), multiuser, sound actually works. Completely open source so no licensing worries.
I’ll also second TeamViewer (the free, non commercial method does have annoying popups when clients disconnect) and Chrome’s remote desktop, especially for shared screen/user support stuff.
