Agreed.  I have an anecdote of my own.  I moved back to California in 1987
with my computers (Sys V Unix,) and immediately began having a series of
hard drive, memory and other failures.  I had moved within sight of a power
generating station on the coast, and I guess that being that close makes
you participate in every switch or fluctuation, even with surge protection
on your local circuits.  Anyway, it all went away when I bought my first
UPS, and I've owned one ever since.
