Depending on how the VM manager implements the GUI screen of the guest virtual
machine, it might NOT be possible to cut and paste between a host system
window and a guest virtual machine's window. It is NOT possible to copy and
paste between a Linux virtual *console* to anything in a Linux machine's X11
display (including a virtual machine's console or display). It is not
possible to copy-and-paste between Linux virtual *consoles*.

What is the *host* O/S? What is the VM's O/S? What are you using for a VM
manager (Virtual Box? VMWare?, Xen?, KVM?, something else?)?

Note: if the host is a Linux or UNIX system and you ssh into the [Linux/UNIX]
guest from the host and then fire up an X11 program (eg using SSH tunneling),
it IS possible to copy-and-paste between the host machine and the guest, since
then they are using the same X11 Server (on the host usually).
