Problems loging in

Hi,

I really need some advice on this one...

1. I have mint - Mate installed version = rebecca , the latest version
and fully updated) installed.
2. During a electrical power outage, I turned on my computer (battery
backup) but the router was not on battery backup, thus no network
connection (I have a wired connection).
3. The computer booted up properly with a delay because on no network
connection. I expected this.
I successfully got through grub and I got the logon screen. So far, no
problems.
4. When I loged-on to any account, all I get is a black screen and the
mouse cursor. The mouse cursor responds to moving the mouse.

The electricity is fully restored and I can access the internet but I
can't get into any Mint account. My guess is that something is wrong with
the X server. Is there any solutions to this? Maybe I can get to a
command prompt to fix the problem, but how?

I dual boot with Windows, Ubuntu - Mate, and Mint Mate. Windows works
fine so it is not a hardware problem. Although I haven't tested Ubuntu
- Mate but I'll bet that works, I'll check later. Since it affects ALL
Mint-Mate accounts (admin and regular users) it is something global and
not unique to a particular account.
