The remote NFS server is very much ready (it is also the dhcp server, DNS
server, and router/firewall for the LAN). It is just that the network on the
desktop machine is is not configured yet. Appearently adding bootwait causes
mountall to 'wait' (in the brackground?) until the network is up. The boot
screen actually displays a message to that effect (the message vanishes after
a few 10s of seconds).
