Help resolving predependency

Greetings,

I have an old server (Edubuntu 12.04) that I'm trying to decommission. This old server had a program installed on it that I need to install on the new server. This program was packaged before Ubuntu forked to Multiarch. So I built the new server with 12.04 on it and installed the ia32-libs that the package depended upon. I also installed the getlibs package and pulled any dependencies. When I try to install the packages using the deb files, I get an error that it is missing a pre-dependency for xdg-utils. The problem is that the package is installed on the server. I'm not sure how I can make dpkg realize that it is already installed. I attempted to look at the install location on the old server so that I could create the folder structure and symbolic link to it, but folder structures on both servers appear to be the same. Not sure how to proceed. Any suggestions? Any help is appreciated!

Regards,

Jeff
