pulseaudio not authenticated

After I wrote that email I looked at pulseaudio in Software center.  Where
in Synaptic is was uninstalled in SC it was installed.  I tried removing
and reinstalling.  I could not reinstall.

Then I sudo apt-get remove pulseaudio

then

sudo apt-get install pulseaudio

Now the sound is back. I had not sound indicator so

sudo apt-get install indicator-sound

and

killall unity-panel-service

The applet returned however when I click on it I only get system settings.

So problem is partially resolved.
