The difference being that the "repport a bug" link on
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/ leads to:
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs
while the "repport a bug" link on
https://launchpad.net/ubuntustudio-project leads to:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntustudio-project/+filebug
I think that wiki page about repporting a bug this is a very
discouraging page. It sure killed my good intentions to help many times
in the past. It told me to edit /etc/default/apport, but how? Then it
shows a button i cannot find in my flavor. What if i don't have gksudo?
how should i edit gksudo gedit /etc/apport/crashdb.conf
Now i know these things. But some people are afraid to ask these things,
thinking the question might be too obvious or because it may make them
appear stupid or inferior.
Misunderstand me right: I'm not saying the page is bad and everything
sucks, i'm offering to help better it. I think everyone involved so far
has good points that are being cluttered by human-communication flaws.
So, here am I, and I just left my n00b-shell to move into a more
advanced one, like a hermit-crab, and perhaps this gives me a
perspective on how it is to be a beginner in your system. I'm not saying
that i have a better view on things, i'm saying:
Exploit my post-n00biness :) I cannot contribute with much
computer-code, but i can offer help fixing some bugs in the human-code :)
Things like:
- Perhaps make sure the instruction flavor agnostic. Also those
instructions could be linked on the actual
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntustudio-project/+filebug page.
in an appealing way, such as a sexybutton saying:
"click here to learn how to do it the easy way for you and best way for
us".
- Find a good way to make the terms about what is being sent and how it
is used crystal-clear to avoid doubts. I know many people who don't mind
their password being sent to be deleted, i know many people who would
die a little bit inside knowing that data can be printed to logs at all.
The best way to make everyone pf these different type of people happy is
consistent transparency. I'm not saying ubuntu is opak, i just think
transparency is an ever ongoing process.
Let's talk about it, constructively, hardfeelings aside, in a
collaborative spirit and make that buggthing rock-solid!!
However please, if anything, stay kind to each other <3
