OK -- are you certain that the VM is detecting all 3 mouse buttons?
There are diagnostics that will help, or show this.

Do you have the VMware guest additions installed inside the VM? Are
they the latest version?

Could you download and try a bootable ISO of vanilla Ubuntu, for testing?

If you have guest additions, copy/paste should work both from host OS
into the VM and from VM out to the host.

But with or without them, middle-click copying will not work on
Windows, only inside the VM. It's a Linux-only feature.
