You've left it a bit late! The next LTS release is out in 3 months.

I suggest Nemo. It's the same Nautilus code, with all the missing
functionality and a ton more put back in. It's a total replacement for
Files, managing your desktop and everything. Just file manager windows
look different.

It works a treat; I use it on 14.04 and 15.10.

It's much less work to move to than a totally different file manager,
as it's the same one you're used to, but with nothing taken out.
