Oops, I forgot that mounting a video DVD is possible, just mounting an
audio CD is impossible, but it can be played.
Did you try mounting by command line?
Audio CD:
=========
[rocketmouse at archlinux ~]$ sudo mkdir -p /media/optical
[rocketmouse at archlinux ~]$ ls -hAl /media/optical/
total 0
[rocketmouse at archlinux ~]$ sudo mount -t auto /dev/cdrom /media/optical
mount: /dev/sr0 is write-protected, mounting read-only
mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/sr0,
missing codepage or helper program, or other error
In some cases useful info is found in syslog - try
dmesg | tail or so.
Video DVD:
==========
[rocketmouse at archlinux ~]$ sudo mount -t auto /dev/cdrom /media/optical
mount: /dev/sr0 is write-protected, mounting read-only
[rocketmouse at archlinux ~]$ ls -hAl /media/optical/*/
/media/optical/AUDIO_TS/:
total 0
/media/optical/VIDEO_TS/:
