This is wise, although for me, a little *too* conservative.

I leave it a month or so, for the early-adopters to fall for the
bleeding-edge bugs, report them and the issues to be fixed.

This applies to either LTS or normal releases: give it time for the
dust to settle and the impetuous and impatient to get bitten. Once the
complaints stop, it's time.
