Up-to-date Ubuntu 16.04.1 LTS (4.4.0-45-generic #66-Ubuntu SMP Wed Oct
19 14:12:37 UTC 2016) booted fine with nvidia-361 and associated
packages on PC with GeForce GTX 460.
After updating yesterday including to nvidia-367 the system failed to
boot, Plymouth stopping with the post boot script message which precedes
starting the GUI booting the kernel with "verbose splash" - possibly
"Running /scripts/local-top ..." .
In maintenance mode, "journalctl -xb" gave no hint of video related or
relevant problems.
Removing all nvidia packages results in the system booting to a desktop
using Gallium. A subsequent clean install of nvidia-367 and related
packages returns the system to the unbootable state.
