Perhaps nowadays, but in the "beginning" when pulseaudio
replaced arts, esound or whatever, we got years with a faulty
pulseaudio and pulseaudio developers who even blamed alsa drivers, that
worked perfectly with anything else, but pulseaudio. It even became a
hard dependency, while there absolutely is no need to make it a hard
dependency. It has broken audio for many users, who were forced to
install it as a hard dependency, while pulseaudio was not able to do
what those users needed. For me there are historical reasons to dislike
it and de facto even today not many users really need it at all.
