Making a bootable USB stick from a CD (not a Linux distro)

Probably the software on the CD is not meant to be copied to a USB 
stick. Then the software can't boot because a USB stick is something 
like a hard disk and not something like a CDROM drive.

I think, if the laptop doesn't have an internal CD/DVD drive you would 
have to get a USB CD/DVD drive.
