Why installing openjdk-7-jdk on Ubuntu Trusty installs systemd as well?

Possibly, I don't know about lxc containers. Interestingly when I
look through the list of packages it wants to install I see that most
of them are already installed on my machine, including many systemd
related packages such as systemd-services. In fact the only one I
managed to find in a few minutes of trying that are not on my machine
is systemd itself. This includes packages such as dbus that I thought
would be installed by default, which surprises me. So perhaps you are
right that this is to do with the container.
