No I installed 16.04 LTS. I did do all updates. The only thing I brought over was the /var/www and below files. Did that by using a live CD disk and using nautilus.

Yes reboot server put in root as user and then the password.
When I log in as macmike (who I set as administrator) I can sudo. I could until I installed openssh
