Your problem seems to be just the opposite of the problems people have 
been having recently. Some of us are having problems downloading plugins 
using the plugin manager. The solution is to download and install them 
manually.  I don't know the Mac OS at all but on Linux you just need to 
get then in the correct directory.

One of the great things about jEdit is it is being actively developed 
and the developers are really responsive on the jEdit mailing list.
