As a site note for the OP. There are so called "desktop files" that
could be used to manage, that some software only shows up, if you are
running a dedicated environment. IOW it could be, that it is visible
when running Unity, but not shown when running Xfce. You could edit
those "desktop files", to show the settings whatever environment you
are running, but most likely those settings don't affect Xfce. It might
even be, that they don't start, because they require some Unity software
to run, that doesn't run, if you run a Xfce session.
