Can't boot notebook from SSD

Alas, I have to disagree with Xen -- UEFI is an inherently good thing,
even if it's taking a while to get the rough edges off. That being
said, you're not gonna find out (easily) what the issue is if you can't
see it. And this is exactly why I hate splash screens, etc., and always
disable them.

So, two approaches, here. If you want to permanently disable splash,
etc., boot off USB, mount your root partition, edit your
/boot/grub/grub.cfg file (remembering that it will be off the
mountpoint, not the actual path I just typed), and look for all the
lines with "quiet splash", and get rid of those words. Reboot, and you
may actually see the error fly by. (When t-shooting boot issues, I
sometimes find it handy to record with my cell, so I can pause the
playback.)

Or you can edit the line in the GRUB menu: hit "e" to edit the selected
GRUB option, find the quiet and splash, ixnay 'em, <ctl>x to boot. Note
that that will only affect that particular boot attempt, and would need
to be repeated next time you want to look.

Good luck!
