Lenovo Thinkpad. Every time.
The best build quality in PC laptops, and the best keyboards too.
Sadly they've gone over to trendy chicklet keyboards in recent years,
but they're still good chicklet for keyboards.
The best PC laptops around; I even prefer them to Apple portables.
Accept no substitute.
I buy used machines. I am currently on my 4th Thinkpad, a used X220 I
bought in January for £150 from morgancomputers.com. It replaced an
X200, also bought used. That replaced an X32, which replaced an i1200
series, the only one I bought new, as it was a budget model. I
regretted the budget machine a bit but it served me well.
You're far better off with a used Thinkpad than a new model from anyone else.
Note: Ideapads etc are not Thinkpads. Not any other model of Lenovo --
the rest are commodity plastic junk like anyone's -- but Thinkpad and
nothing but Thinkpad.
I have owned Toshiba, Sony, Apple and other makes. All inferior. I
have serviced and repaired most other makes too. None come even close.
