With the second monitor disconnected open a terminal and run
tail -f /var/log/syslog
then plug in the monitor and see what gets added to the log. If it
doesn't help you then copy/paste here what you see added to the log.
You can copy from the terminal using Ctrl-Shift-C. Hopefully that
will provide some clues.
