Ubuntu stock 14.04 Firefox crashes on machines with NFS mounted file systems

Have you tried running Firefox from the command line to see if there
are any useful/meaningful error messages?

So is there any reason why you can't stay with 52.6? 

Ubuntu 14.04 is not going to be supported for much longer is it?
