How to 'do-release-upgrade' from 16.04 to 18.04 remotely using PuTTY?

I am responsible for 3 servers, one of which is located remotely. 
  All my release upgrades from 2000 have been done using PuTTY, 
without a problem.

If you do the release upgrade using PuTTY you will receive a 
warning and then the system will open a 2nd SSH port, just in 
case.  If you lose the PuTTY connection and can't log in again 
you can log in using the 2nd port.

If the connection goes down during the upgrade, the upgrade will 
continue until the upgrading system need information.
