I've found the battery now.

Yes, this can be. Like I've told, it's hard to read.

In the BIOS screen, in "System Information", under "Bios Information",  
there is: "Version: 1503" and "Build Date: 11/14/12". At the bottom  
there is "v02.61 (C)Copyright 1985-20011, American Megbatrends, Inc."

Let me check the link which you've provided (Asus).

In the BIOS, I have found an "ASUS EZ Flash 2 tool" now. This must be  
that "option via usb". It says "Press ENTER to run the utility to  
select and update BIOS".

I'll dig into that!
