The thing is that it is unlikely (as far as I can tell) for someone with
a MacBook, a ChromeBook (all of kids > 6th grade get a ChromeBook) or
MS-Windows laptop, to have any need for such a dongle -- ALL of those machines
have built-in wireless and all have "factory installed" OSs with drivers. The
only people who have something other than "factory installed" OSs are people
running Linux and these would be the only people who would have any issues
with wireless driver issues. I expect that if someone with one of the above
"factory installed" O/Ss (MacOSX, ChromeOS, or MS-Windows) whose wireless NIC
dies would be more likely to get a new laptop and junk the old one. *I'm*
guessing one of the reasons this machine was donated to the library was that
the owner "upgraded" to a new machine, possibly because this one was starting
to have problems (its battery is kaput for sure, but I am thinking its
wireless has "died").
We really don't have a "Computer Community". We have people with computers
(most of whom are on some level "computer illerate", for some definatation of
that phrase). I doubt any of them have a WiFi dongle to spare and probably
don't know what that is.
