Enable soundcard?

I have collected the output from all. Most is Greek to me I must admit.
To give an idea of the graphical configuration options I have taken screen 
shots of the System Settings Audio module.

Problem is that the front jack has had better days. I have to twist it very 
gently to hit the sweet spot. Even when I find it there's a continuing 
ticking sound, so I need to have an audio program running on very low volume 
to remove it. Not exactly an ideal solution...

As for the audio jack in the back, the system(?) recognizes when speakers 
are plugged in, in that the "Line Out" option is removed when unplugged, but 
nothing I do seems to result in any sound coming out of it. I have tested if 
the speakers work btw ;)
